Fill Up With Fiber
If you were to choose fruit or a high fat food like cookies or cake, which would be more filling? A recent five-week study was conducted on 34 women, aged 34 to 45, where one-half were of normal weight, the other half were obese. All of the women were served a main dish every day. One day the entrée was high in fat; the next day it would be loaded with fruits and vegetables. After the main dish, the women were allowed to eat as much of the different and various side dishes as they wanted. The conclusion: all of the women, whether thin or fat, ate 16% fewer calories from the side dishes when the main entrée was the fruit and vegetable offering. Apparently the high fat entrees don't give one the feeling of fullness that the fruits and vegetables do. - Lynda Cleary
