Runners top tips
Runner's World
To perform better when you do different types of runs - short and fast, long and slow - wear different types
of shoes. Performance-training shoes are great for speed workouts; a heavier, more cushioned, more stable
shoe is better for long runs; and trail shoes are better for rugged, off-road running.

Say 'No' to Too Low
With all we hear in advertising these days about low-fat diets, you'd think that the less fat you eat, the better. This is true, but only up to a point. And as runners, we can actually benefit from getting 30 percent of our calories from fat (primarily mono- or polyunsaturated, found in olive oil and nuts). Researchers at the University of Buffalo found that, for people who run at least 35 miles per week, too little fat in the diet can inhibit endurance.

Winning Race Tactics
You might not ever finish first in a race, but you can win the title of best-loved competitor on the course by avoiding a few habits that irritate other runners. 1) Don't suddenly sprint to the finish out of nowhere -- it's poor sportsmanship. 2) Always be aware of runners behind you if you need to stop, walk, or cut to the side. 3) If you're going to pass another runner, get a couple of steps ahead first so that you don't cut him or her off. 4) Don't "bandit" a race (run without a number, i.e., without paying) even if it's a training run for you -- consider entry fees as donations to a worthwhile cause.
