For most body builders, the calf muscles can handle and require a great deal of weight to be trained hard. One exercise that allows you to use the heaviest of weights is the donkey calf raise. Using a special machine, you perform the exercise in a position where you are bent forward from the hips, with the load resting atop your hips. Since the resistance is not being supported by your trunk muscles, donkey calf raises allow you to use far greater poundage than standing calf raises, providing an intense calf workout. - Aaron Harris
