A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association followed 42,000 women and their eating habits over a six-year span. The result? Death risk was reduced by about 30% for those who follow the U.S.D.A. Food Pyramid guidelines. The women who ate the healthiest foods were actually 40% less likely to die of cancer and 30% less likely to die of heart disease during the study. The research nutritionists believe that eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, as well as grains and breads is more healthful than taking supplements. The women who followed the Food Pyramid most closely were also slightly better educated, they exercised more, and they didn't smoke. Interested in the Food Pyramid?
