The Mental Side of Racing

Power of positive thinking from emazing

Like many sports, running races successfully is said to rely heavily on attitude and confidence. A sports psychologist named Gary A. Beale, Ph.D. refers to the "mind over matter" connection as "ideomotor activity." He states that positive thoughts and emotions actually have a positive effect on muscles, just as a negative mentality will affect muscles negatively. No matter what we call it, no one can doubt that between runners of equal ability, the more positive one is likely to have a better race. - Mariam Ballantine
